Our Q4 2020/21 Monitoring Report (short-term objectives) is aligned with our Oct 2020 - Mar 22 Strategy.

This document reflects the short-term objectives, outcomes and outputs of our 2020-2020 strategy which cover two broad areas:

  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
  • VCS Recovery post covid-19

This work has been supported by a number of generous funders to whom we are very grateful; they are:

  • City Bridge Trust
  • Guy's and St. Thomas’ Charity
  • National Grid
  • Partnership Southwark
  • Southwark Council
  • The National Lottery Community Fund
  • Trust for London
  • United St Saviour’s Charity

This report serves as our monitoring report with the Southwark Council, as part of the Council for Voluntary Services contract (for the parts of our work funded by this contract), and is also shared with our members via the Community Southwark website in order to demonstrate how we are meeting (or not) our short-term strategic aims and objectives.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

We have made the first, amongst many more to come, steps to make sure that our own charity is equal, diverse and inclusive and reflective of the local population in Southwark: we ran unconscious bias workshops for our staff, set up an equality working group, recruited one trustee from our Southwark R.E.A.C.H. Network https://www.communitysouthwark.org/reach-alliance and one from our Latin American Network https://www.communitysouthwark.org/latin-american-network to diversify our own Board of Trustees. We have asked our staff, trustees and volunteer to share with us their diversity data (anonymously) so that we can establish a benchmark and compare those to the local population in Southwark. Some of the work in this area has been held back by the illness of the HR and Office Manager (at the moment the post is vacant).

In addition to the work of the above two networks, we have supported the sector with a range of training events, 1:1 sessions and resources including https://www.communitysouthwark.org/News/support-for-lgbtq-people (as part of the LBGT History Month in February) and https://www.communitysouthwark.org/News/lets-not-go-back-to-normal-race-equality-week-2021 (as part of the Race Equality Week in February 2021)

VCS recovery post covid-19

We are analysing the feedback received from ethnic minority-led groups provided as part of our Annual Membership Survey and will report in detail around June 2021. I was nevertheless very heartening to see that over 90% of our members were satisfied or very satisfied with the support received from us. This confirms that our actions over the last 12 months, during covid-19, have been in line with the needs of the sector. We continue to play our part, be it by promoting additional support sources such as https://www.communitysouthwark.org/News/vcs-emergencies-partnership-additional-support-for-your-charity or updating our resources to help our members https://www.communitysouthwark.org/reopening-your-organisation

Another element worth highlighting from the Annual Survey is the responses concerning how members feel about our support in enabling them to be:

Organisations that are better connected, informed and equipped are better organisations full stop. We are glad to be able to provide our support and are grateful for the positive feedback.
