Would you like a free oak tree sapling?

Because of delays in government tree planting subsidies, around 750,000 oak saplings will soon be destroyed.

XR Southwark have found a tree nursery that is selling two-year-old oak saplings. They are going to order as many as they can find homes for. They have created a survey is to find out how many people can take on trees (free of charge!) to plant in their gardens or other spaces.

The trees will be delivered to them in November, but they need to order them now so the nursery knows how many to keep alive. They will give you the trees free of charge, all that they ask is that you collect them from them (from a location in Southwark / Lewisham yet to be decided) in November and plant them somewhere suitable.

Leave an email address and/or a phone number and they will tell you where and when you can collect your tree(s). They will only contact you about the trees, you will not be added to any Extinction Rebellion mailing lists.

Some details about the trees: they are between 80cm and 1m high. They come bare-rooted (i.e. out of the soil) and need to be planted within a week of delivery.

PS: Oak trees grow large - so you will need to plant them with enough space to grow. Please see a planting and aftercare guide here.
