Link Age Southwark is a vibrant local charity which helps to ensure that older people can thrive in later life. They work with up to 600 older people each year, and with 400 volunteers, to support older to people stay connected with their communities, alleviating loneliness, improving health and wellbeing and making communities stronger through volunteering.

About the Role
  • Hours of work: 21 hours per week for 3 months (starting 5 July)
  • Salary: £10.85 per hour (London Living Wage)

Increasing the digital inclusion of our service users is a relatively new area of work for the charity. It has predominantly come about due to the pandemic and the extensive work that they have undertaken in encouraging older people to access services using online platforms. These services have included: online exercise groups, meetings with volunteer befrienders and our virtual parties. They have recently surveyed their service users to identify how many would like to increase their digital capability and what their current
capability is. From this survey around 50% of respondents have expressed an interest in this offer.

The purpose of this role will be to take the lead on responding to this demand and taking this piece of work forward for the charity. They have been developing an implementation plan and this role will oversee the rollout of this. You will also be responsible for supporting the recruitment of a pool of digital support volunteers. This role will also act as the main liaison point with ClearCommunityWeb who they have commissioned to provide focused tech support.


  • Following up on the responses from the survey and contacting service users who have expressed
    an interest in increasing their digital capability.
  • Liaising with ClearCommunityWeb to take forward and monitor the commissioned work.
  • Working with colleagues to promote and publicise the support that is available for older people
    including workshop sessions and the 1:1 support.
  • Working with colleagues to recruit and engage a pool of volunteer digital champions.
  • Working with the Groups and Events Assistant to support older people in accessing online
    groups and events plus assisting in the coordination of digital training events (in person and/or
  • Supporting the services team to advise on referrals of older people seeking support with digital
    capability needs.
  • Maintaining accurate and up to date record of work undertaken on this project via their database
