What is the Kings Civic Challenge?

The King’s Civic Challenge empowers students, staff and local communities to make a lasting difference, by teaming up to co-create imaginative solutions to local challenges.

It is:

  • An incubator -  Development/training programme to generate and refine ideas with social impact.
  • A competition -  Pitch for one of four awards of £5k funding and support to deliver projects. But every team and project is important.
  • A community - 15-20 charities and around 100 like-minded King’s students, staff and alumni.
  • A journey -  Teams interrogate a local issue brought by the charity and co-design a project. All team members participate fully and equally on a voyage of shared discovery. King’s wants to support all projects, not just those that win funding. NB The 2021/22 Challenge will be a mixture of in-person and online activity

Why should your charity take part?

  • Explore an issue facing your communities
  • Learn from the perspectives and expertise of King’s students, staff and alumni
  • Gain recognition and appreciation for your charity
  • Network with other charities and community organisations
  • Connect with a world-leading university
  • Develop skills through training and workshops
  • Potentially win funding to deliver a project or pilot
