Syeda, our VCS Support Manager,  tells us about her team and the support that they give to charities in the borough.

Hi, my name is Syeda and I am the new VCS Support Manager for Community Southwark. I started in November 2021, and previous to this role I was the Southwark Health Projects Manager for Age UK Lewisham and Southwark for 2 years. I have been working in the third sector for about a decade.

I support the team that coordinates VCS Support to build capacity in the voluntary and community sector (VCS) in Southwark. This includes two VCS Support Officers, one of which focuses on supporting minority led organisations including R.E.A.C.H Alliance and Latin American Network, one Policy and Participation officer and one Evaluation and Impact Officer.

Our VCS Support services aim to support organisations around infrastructure and sustainability, such as governance and income generation. The purpose of policy and participation is to bring organisations together to share good practice, network and collaborate to address challenges in the borough, which are then represented in Southwark Voice. Our ‘Make your Mark’ programme supports organisations to understand the impact they are achieving and how to articulate that impact to others. Additionally, the VCS Support team provide free regular training opportunities. We also offer a bespoke consultancy service.

It is an exciting time to be part of Community Southwark with so many wonderful changes such as moving to a new office, being able to physically meet my team, and hopefully soon meet our CS members in-person. We are working closely with our CS members to address the many challenges they face and continue to tailor and adapt to the needs of the borough. I look forward to working with everyone during my time here at Community Southwark.
