IVAR, experts in charity and community support, are hosting a series of free workshops for charity leaders, helping them manage in uncertain times.

For this first session, you can join theim and other charity leaders for a 90 minute discussion about the benefits and challenges of working with social technology and combatting digital exclusion.

You will have space to share challenges, time to pause and reflect, and the opportunity to hear each other’s experiences.

This session is facilitated by Ben Cairns and Annie Caffyn from IVAR (Institute for Voluntary Action Research), who will share insights during the session from:

  • Start somewhere, an exploration of how small charities can get started with tech
  • Responding to change, which looked at how charities' use of tech evolved in response to the pandemic

Please note this is not a technical session – it will focus on mindset, behaviours, and approaches other charities have taken.

Other discussions in this three-month Leading in Uncertainty drop-in series will cover Wellbeing and supporting your team and Working in partnership.

They will aim to publish a summary/output from the session, capturing some of the current challenges facing the voluntary sector. This is an opportunity to influence their community of over 100 Open and Trusting Grantmakers.

Examples of feedback IVAR have received when delivering similar sessions:

‘I found this space highly valuable to hear and empathise with other charity leaders grappling with similar challenges. I also enjoyed hearing about their unique context and specific challenges; it is great to get out of your own head and hear what is important for others; I learnt a lot about how other leaders approach their work and its pressures from these conversations. It prompted me to reflect on my own priorities and approaches.’
