On Friday evening (20 November) from 6-7.30pm, we hosted our annual Southwark Stars Volunteer Celebration event!

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we held the event online this year.

This Southwark Stars event gave us the opportunity to celebrate those who took the time to volunteer to support others, thus helping to make Southwark a better place. Since the outbreak of COVID-19 and lockdown in place, we have seen huge numbers of volunteers coming together to help those in need in all different ways across the borough.

This event recognised outstanding volunteers, community groups and local people in six award categories. Given this past year with the pandemic, there was a lot to thank and recognise.

We wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to our six award winners:

Young Volunteer of the Year: Zack Sivalingham, Volunteer at Surrey Docks Farm

Outstanding Contribution to Health & Wellbeing: Theresa GiffardVolunteer at Pembroke House (plus other volunteer projects)

Community Group of the Year: Southwark Independent Voice (Nicola Rolfe accepted on behalf of the group)

Older Volunteer of the Year: Hugh Quinn, volunteer at Draper Together CIO

Keib Thomas Active Citizen: Kathleen Heather, Volunteer at Bermondsey Community Foodbank

Disabled Volunteer of the Year: Lucus Tomlins, volunteer at Pembroke House

It was really lovely to hear from you all and hear a bit more about your stories. We had a few teary eyes amongst the staff team as we're sure there were in the audience. You are all incredible and Southwark is stronger because of you, thank you.

A big thank you too to our presenters:

Thank you for your lovely words about the award winners and for giving up your time on Friday evening to join us.

This year we showcased stories, videos and photos about the amazing volunteers that were nominated and the organisations that nominated them. Because although not everyone could be given an award, you are all winners and Southwark Stars to us, thank you.

We collated these and created three short videos:
