Latest CS news Hello from Bridie, our VCS Engagement Officer (Covid-19) Published 24 Sept 2021 Bridie shares why she does what she does, "I am driven by supporting social justice and an equality of opportunity." I’m Bridie, VCS Engagement Officer (Covid-19) at Healthwatch Southwark. Healthwatch, hosted by Community Southwark, is the health and social care champion for Southwark residents. I run the Community Health Ambassadors Network, which was created to help inform, empower, and support peoples’ communities during the Covid-19 pandemic. I continue to provide Ambassadors with accurate, up to-date resources and information to share in their communities, including in multiple languages and formats. Working closely with Public Health, I help tackle misinformation and support the rollout of the vaccination programme. We now have a diverse group of 90+ Ambassadors participating. I am driven by supporting social justice and an equality of opportunity. One of the most important parts of my work is listening to the community about the barriers they are facing in keeping themselves safe, and hearing feedback about what support would be relevant and helpful to vulnerable communities. I want everyone in Southwark to be able to have their voice and concerns heard. I pass feedback about inequalities and challenges that people are facing onto the local NHS, Public Health and Southwark Council to ensure that vulnerable groups are reached and can support themselves better. I have also just concluded a grant programme that funded innovative projects to support vulnerable and high-risk communities during the pandemic by grassroots voluntary sector community groups. Projects included a phone app that translated health information, surveys, street outreach, a telephone hotline in 8 languages, translated audio recordings for visually impaired people, workshops and newsheets among much more.
