This event will see Southwark council officers, who organise community engagement activities, present to the Black and minority ethnic (BME) community sector what has worked well with its past and current community engagement practice and the challenges they have faced with achieving better quality community engagement with BME communities.

This will be followed by an exchange of views and reflections between the BME community sector and council officers about what has been heard in parts one and two of this event.

The final part of the event will pull together agreed solutions and actions on what needs to be done to achieve better BME community engagement and how these solutions and actions will be incorporated into future community engagement approaches and practices.

The event will address:

  • Reflections from Council officers; what's worked & the challenges with community engagement with BME communities.

  • Exchange of views between BME- led community organisations and Council officers.

  • Agreeing solutions and actions for better engagement with the BME community.

Conversations will be led by community representatives from the BME community.
