The aim of this course is to ensure Southwark staff, multi-agency partners and those working within the wider Southwark community increase their knowledge and understanding about the issue of serious youth violence including knife crime.

This course is suitable for those working in sectors where they may come across this issue in their line of work, but also for those who are working on it day to day, as it is focused on up to date information and is informed by the 'Still Not Safe' report which was published in February 2021 from the Children’s Commissioner.

Participants will be able to:

  •  A broad understanding of the current situation of serious youth violence including knife crime in Southwark, London and the UK in 2020/2021
  • Knowledge and understanding of the report from the Children’s commissioner 'Still Not Safe' (Feb 2021), its findings and recommendations and participants roles in its implementation.
  • Understanding of the terminology used by young people, the adults involved in cultures underpinning the issue and professionals involved in this work to improve understanding and communication.

  • Where to find further information and support.

  • An understanding of their own role in supporting the initiatives that are in place.

  • Knowledge and understanding of approaches to intervene early, support young people to find different pathways and the range strategies in place and being tried to reduce serious youth violence including knife crime.
